May 14th marks the first anniversary of the devastating fire that ripped through Simcha Catering's Offices and Commissary. Firefighter teams from three surrounding municipalities, Farmers Branch, Addison, and Carrollton, responded to bring the fire under control, but not before the interior of the building was completely decimated. These brave first responders are true heroes. Watching them in action risk their lives over the course of six hours was a sight we will never forget. They deserve every accolade that could be bestowed upon them. We thank G-d that no one was injured.
A year later, the walls of the building are still being supported and the large gaping hole in the roof has been closed, but the building is still standing. Simcha Catering is much like the building we called home for over 20 years. We would not be standing today had it not been for the critical support and kindness from Congregation Shaare Tefilla, Dallas Kosher and Congregation Ohr HaTorah. We will also be forever grateful for the amazing outpouring of support from individuals in our community and beyond. The following morning, as the smoke was still clearing and the building still smoldering, Simcha Catering was able to continue preparing meals and catering events, but this time from our new home at Shaare Tefilla. We cannot begin to express our gratitude to Shaare Tefilla for allowing us to relocate and continue our operations doing what we love. We owe a special thanks to many individuals at Shaare Tefilla including Rabbi Ariel Rackovsky, Board President Joe Ravitsky, Executive Director Robyn Rovinsky Mirsky, Vice President of Facilities Ben Fine, and all of the Congregants and their immense patience. Unfortunately, no one could predict the awaiting challenge and threat of COVID-19. However, much like last year, Simcha Catering has done our best to adapt and continue under the new normal. We thank everyone who has continued to support our business during this challenging time from purchasing meals and assisting us in supporting first responders and families in need. While we will not return to the building that was engulfed in flames one year ago today, Simcha Catering is still standing, resilient, and ready to serve. Again, from the bottom of my heart, Thank you. Lowell Michelson and the entire Simcha Catering Team
